The purpose of FOCUS is to assist in the academic achievement of children in urban schools.  We will work to provide children and families with the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed in order to be successful in school and beyond.  To that end, we pledge to:

1. Advocate on behalf of all children within the community;

2. Increase equity and parity within and across schools;

3. Improve literacy rates for school children;

4. Engage more parents actively in the education of their children'

5. Eradicate hate within and across groups;

6. Decrease the achievement gap that exists among poor children, children or color and their peers, and

7. Encourage community activism on behalf of our children.

Mission

FOCUS exists to empower families, to advocate for children and to transform generations and communities.  This mission is realized in part by the actions of members.  These actions include:

* Mentoring children and parents

* Providing access to resources

* Improving the knowledge, skills and dispositions of parents and other care givers, and

* Working within the community to improve the lives of school-aged children.
