What is TIPP?
Did you know that most parents spend more time planning for their child’s first birthday party than they do planning for their child’s life? It's sad, but true. And when parents do plan, it's usually only in the areas of education and finances. The Intentional Parenting Plan (TIPP) is a study in parenting for parents and guardians of minor children. It is designed to assist parents in making decisions about their child-rearing practices and then to put those decisions in writing. Focusing on meeting the needs of today's parents and families, TIPP is designed to help parents make thoughtful decisions based on biblical principles.
What role does TIPP have the potential to play?
TIPP is a study that includes the completion of a workbook, participation in a series of workshops, and completion of a written plan. Through these efforts, parents are able to say in a written format their desires for their child. TIPP challenges them to think, explore, and reflect on what they want for the child and why they may want it. It is a planning document that makes it clear to all what the parents have envisioned for the life of the child.
Why is TIPP needed?
Studies show that parental engagement in the growth and development of the child is important in order for the child to be successful. While most parents have some ideas about what they may want for their child, many of those ideas are not fully developed and rarely written in a document that can be used and modified over time for rearing the child. TIPP will help good parents begin to parent more intentionally and become better parents. With intentional parenting, parents will begin to act in ways that reflect their own thoughtfulness in planning for the life of the child.
It is said that it takes 21 days to either create or extinguish a habit. TIPP is designed to be completed over 42 days or six weeks so that the thoughts and actions of parents are transformed over time. Through responding to thoughtful questions daily, parents will take deliberate actions to assist in the growth and nurturing of the child. What results for the parents and child is the creation of an environment that is more structured, creative, and purposeful.
What can TIPP do for you and/or your congregation/organization?
All children and parents will benefit from completing the TIPP process. Using biblical principles, parents will be challenged to think, plan, and act on effective child rearing practices. The areas that are covered in TIPP include 1) character development; 2) image creation; 3) health and wellness; 4) home life; 5) parenting in general; 6) education; 7) finances; and 8) the world. At the completion of the workshop, parents will have a written plan that explains what they want for the child. It is believed that through the completion of the workshop, workbook, and plan that parents and children will experience more positive and fulfilling lives.
